Recyclebank is now accepting applications for the Recyclebank Green Schools Program in partnership with Domtar. Promoting environmental education, innovation and creative solutions, this exciting program can earn schools up to $2,500 and one lucky school will win a year’s supply of paper. Plus, this year, Domtar paper prizes will be given to schools chosen as most innovative across different categories.

National Drug Take Back Event is scheduled to take place at the Sharon Hill Police Station on Saturday, October 26th between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

This is a great opportunity to go through the house and get rid of any old or unwanted medication and dispose of it in a safe and convenient way.  If you cannot make it that day, feel free to drop off any medications at the police station anytime prior to the event and we will take care of it for you.

BOROUGH OF SHARON HILL

POLICE DEPARTMENT

CHIEF ROBERT TINSLEY

Chief Tinsley is a graduate of Ithaca College and taught health and physical education for several years before joining the Sharon Hill Police Department – first as a part time officer in April 1982 and then promoted to full time in January 1984.  Bob is married with three children and two grandchildren.  After joining the Sharon Hill Police Department, he eventually moved through the ranks from patrolman to sergeant and was promoted to chief on August 1, 2008.

SGT. GEORGE FAULKNER

Sgt. Faulkner was hired as a part time patrolman in October 1988 and was promoted to full time in January 1995.  On November 20, 2008, Sgt. Faulkner was promoted to the rank of sergeant.  George has training is accident investigations, Acutrak speed timing devices and is a certified instructor in the taser.  Sgt. Faulkner is the current president of the Sharon Hill Fire Company.

OFFICER JOSEPH AHERN

Officer Ahern started as a part time officer for the Sharon Hill Police Department in 1995.  He is a full time public safety officer at Villanova University and working on a bachelor’s degree in theology and philosophy.  Joe is certified in numerous training courses pertaining to law enforcement.

OFFICER MICHAEL A. ATTIX

Officer Attix has lived in Sharon Hill since 1977.  He graduated from Holy Spirit School and Monsignor Bonner High School.  He has been a member of the Sharon Hill Fire Company since 1986 and is currently assistant fire chief.  Michael has an associate degree in criminal justice from the Delaware County Community College.  He is a member of D.C.R.T. (Delaware County Response Team) and MIRT (Major Incident Response Team).  He was hired part time by the Sharon Hill Police Department in May 1991 and became a full time officer in February 1999.  Michael is currently the State Constable for the Sharon Hill Borough and a senior patrol officer for the Sharon Hill Police Department.

OFFICER ANTHONY W. BUCKLAND

Officer Buckland has been an officer for the Sharon Hill Police Department since 1994 and is also the department’s firearms instructor.  Tony’s past experience includes eight years as a military police officer with the United States Air Force.  He was also the sergeant in charge of the Southeast Delco School Police Department for ten years.

OFFICER BRIAN DEVANEY

Officer Devaney attended Penn State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in crime, law and justice.  After graduating from Penn State University in 2002, Brian attended the Delaware County Community College Municipal Police Academy.  He has his Master’s degree in criminal justice from Wilmington University.  Brian has been working for the Sharon Hill Police Department since March 2003 and became a full time patrolman for the borough in August 2005.  Brian is currently serving as the department’s juvenile officer. 

OFFICER RICHARD HERRON

Officer Herron was hired in January 2007 as a part time officer and was promoted to full time in January 2008.  Rick came to the Sharon Hill Police Department with a wealth of experience.  He has worked in law enforcement since 1996 and was previously employed as a narcotics agent for the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.  Officer Herron is a graduate of Ridley High School and obtained an associate degree from Delaware County Community College in Criminal Justice.

OFFICER CHRISTOPHER HUGANIR

Officer Huganir was hired as a part time officer in april 2006.  He was promoted to full time in December 2008.  He previously worked for the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.  Chris attended Delaware County Community College and graduated from the Police Academy in December 2003.  Officer Huganir is also a handgun, shotgun rifle instructor.

OFFICER STEPHEN J. MUMMO

Officer Mummo joined the Sharon Hill Police Department in 1988 as a part time officer.  He holds an associate degree in criminal justice.  Stephen has work experience in loss prevention.  He recently worked as a training officer at the Delaware County 911 Center, until being promoted to full time as a police officer with Sharon Hill in November 2008.

OFFICER JOHN J. SCANLAN, III

Officer Scanlan graduated from Lycoming College with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.  For seven years, John was employed with Delaware County Juvenile Court as a juvenile probation officer.  He graduated from the Delaware County Municipal Academy and was hired as a part time officer by the Borough of Sharon Hill Police Department in February 2008.  Officer Scanlan was promoted to full time office in November 2008.

 OFFICER CHRISTOPHER DITTUS

Officer Dittus was born in Sharon Hill where he graduated from Academy Park High School in 2006.  He then spent the next 2 1/2 years at Penn State working towards a Forensic Toxicology degree.  He later went to the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy and graduated in December 2009.  Officer Dittus has been  member of the Sharon Hill Fire Company for four years and is currently an engineer.  He was hired as a part-time police officer in March 2010. 

OFFICER SEAN JOHNSON

Officer Johnson graduated from Marple Newtown Senior High School in June 2006.  He attended the Delaware County Police Academy from January 2008 until June of 2008.  He graduated with the Pennsylvania Chief of Police Association Drivers Award, and a GPA of 3.6.  Officer Johnson is a 3rd generation Police Officer and proudly accepted the position of part-time patrolman with the Sharon Hill Police Department in March of 2010.

OFFICER HAKEEM LEE

Officer Lee attended Pensacola Christian College for two years majoring in Criminal Justice.  Lee attended the Delaware County Community College Municipal Police Academy and graduated in December 2011.  He accepted the position of part-time patrolman in April 2012.

OFFICER FRANCIS HERRSCHAFT

Officer Herrschaft grew up in Ridley Township and graduated from Ridley High School in 2005.  He was accepted into the Delaware County Police Academy in June 2011 and graduated in December 2011.  Mr. Herrschaft made the the deans’ list while attending the Police Academy.  Officer Herrschaft joined the Sharon Hill Police Department as a part-time patrolman in April of 2012.

OFFICER MICHAEL GILROY

Officer Gilroy was born and raised in Collingdale.  He graduated from Academy Park High School in 2006.  Shortly after graduation Michael attended the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy from January 2011 to December 2011.  Michael is continuing his education at Villanova University pursuing a Criminal Justice bachelor’s degree.  Michael joined the Sharon Hill Police Department as a part-time patrolman in April of 2012.

PRESIDENT – SCOTT MACNEIL

Scott MacNeil is a life-long resident of Sharon Hill,   Scott is works as a Union Carpenter for Delaware County Local 845. . Scott is a graduate of Academy Park High School and the Folcroft Vo-Tech. He continued his academic career at Thaddeus Stevens Trade School, where he earned a certificate in carpentry. He also attended the Carpenters Union Apprenticeship School and is a certified journeyman carpenter with the state of Pennsylvania.  He is currently serving his third on Sharon Hill Borough Council. Scott has held many positions for the borough, including representative for the local library, representative for the zoning board and planning commission, representative for the shade-tree commission, historical commission, and many more.  Scott is also the past president of the Delaware County Association of Boroughs. In his free time he contributes carpentry work to charitable organizations and volunteers to help renovate the homes of the handicapped.  Scott MacNeil has been raised in this community and has seen first-hand the problems facing Sharon Hill.  Scott currently lives with his fiance within the Borough.  Scott has two daughters names are Kylie and son Andrew.

VICE PRESIDENT – TONIANNE MARTINEZ

ToniAnne has been employed with Maritz Travel Inc. for 23 years, and has worked in many different capacities. Currently, as a Sourcing Manager aligned to the Pharmaceutical sector. ToniAnne is the New Hire Trainer, as well as the lead for Philadelphia Office Vendor Visits. She is well respected at work, and often her expertise is sought after for implementation of new accounts and pursuing sales leads. ToniAnne has received numerous customer service satisfaction awards for responsible contract negotiations, as well as creating savings

for both her client and employer. She served on the Sharon Hill “Home and School Board” as both a member and the CO-President. Under her leadership, they successfully raised enough revenue to purchase and install playground equipment at Sharon Hill Elementary school. Subsequently, she served as “team mom” for the Ramblers Peewee football team, and the Midgets cheerleading squad. She has been a resident of Sharon Hill since. May of 2000, with her husband Keith (employed locally) and their children Cierra (Jr. in college) and Matthew (Sr. in High School), along with their Brindle-Boxer Gibbs. ToniAnne has resided in Delaware County most of her life, being born in Darby and raised in both Yeadon and Lansdowne. ToniAnne is a graduate of the Wilma Boyd Travel and Business School in Pittsburgh, PA. She attended High School in the Lehigh Valley, at Easton Area High School.

COUNCILMAN MICHAEL FINNEGAN

Councilman Finnegan has been a Sharon Hill resident for almost 50 yers.  Michael and his wife Jeanie have been homeowners for twenty-two years.  They have two daughters and a son.  Michael is a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School and Peirce Junior College.  He has been employed at V.T. Graphics for over eighteen years.  Michael is a member of the Sharon Hill Historical Commission.  In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family.  Michael is an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.  Go Phillies!

 

COUNCILMAN  – JAMES LAFFERTY

James was born, raised, and educated in the borough. He attended Academy Park and Delaware County Community College, graduating with honors. James is currently finishing his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science at Temple University, after which he plans to attend law school and eventually work in the District Attorney’s office. James has been heavily involved in the greater community, volunteering for groups ranging from City Team Ministries to the American Red Cross, and has held numerous leadership positions within groups ranging from academic honor societies to civic groups.

COUNCILWOMAN- SHARON BOOKER

Sharon has a history of demonstrating a strong commitment to public service, and has been politically active with the Democratic Party for many years. She has participated in numerous campaigns in various capacities, from advance person, to platform strategist. As a Sharon Hill property owner, Sharon has a vested interest in the quality of education, safety, recreation for our youth, programs for our seniors, and cultivating a sense of community inclusive of all residents. If elected to Sharon Hill Borough Council, She would utilize her political savvy and ability to communicate with people at all levels, to help effectively elevate the quality of life and safety for everyone who resides in our borough. As a former board member of Harambee Institute Charter School, and host of 1st Fridays on Vine (a monthly art and cultural event), Sharon is uniquely qualified to find creative ways to develop, implement, and fund activities and programs to engage our youth and seniors. She is a Motivational Speaker and Educator, who was raised and educated in the borough of Norristown Pennsylvania. Alumna of Eckerd College and Temple University’s Schools of Journalism and Communication; She’s authored a book of poetry and has also been published in several anthologies and journals. Currently, Sharon is employed as an Environmental Claims Administrator in Philadelphia. She and her husband Assarif, own and operate hand wash and car detailing businesses, with locations in Delaware County and Philadelphia. They have resided in Sharon Hill for twelve years.

COUNCILWOMAN – HELEN BROWN

Helen has lived in Delaware County for over thirty years and has been a resident of Sharon Hill for seven years. Helen is a graduate of Overbrook High School.  Helen attended nursing school at Philadelphia General Hospital and has a degree in both nursing degree in both Accounting and Paralegal studies from Community college of Philadelphia. Helen retired from the Hospital of the University Pennsylvania after working in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit for thirty six years and received award for perfect attendance for two consecutive years. She was a hostess for Hillary Clinton and again for Prince Charles of England at the mural dedication in Philadelphia.  Helen was a member of the community day committee and is a volunteer for Delaware County Memorial Hospital for the past three year. Helen is a member of the Paralegal Alumna Association, NACCP, Hospital of the University of Penn twenty five plus years club, member of the Sanctuary Church of the Open Door and its twenty-five year Active Members Club.  Helen is a considerate and passionate person who is always ready to lend a helping hand.  She does not seek the glare of publicity, just the gratification of helping and taking that extra step to do a little more.  This is what she has spent most of her life doing.  She views this as one of the greatest achievements.

COUNCILMAN – TERRENCE OLIVER

Terrence is 39 years old and has lived in Sharon Hill since 2001. Terrence has been a lifelong advocate of community service and is currently involved in youth sports programs with his two sons. He lives in Sharon Hill with his wife of 10 years Tyese and their two sons Tyler and Terrence, who attend the Sharon Hill public schools. He holds an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Temple University. Terrence works as Director of Finance and has more than 15 years experience in financial services. “I am committed to attracting more talent and opportunities to Sharon Hill, to improve our bottom line without raising income tax or real estate tax, and to preserve the beauty of our beloved borough.
