June 1, 2026

Nearly 100 cyclists participated in the inaugural Bike the Pike event on Saturday, May 30th, celebrating the opening of a new 7-mile bicycle route connecting Sharon Hill, Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park, and Ridley Park. The route provides a low-stress alternative to Chester Pike, allowing riders to safely explore neighborhoods, parks, schools, historic sites, and local businesses throughout the corridor, according to an article in the Delaware County Daily Times

The project was developed by the Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners, a coalition of the five municipalities that has spent several years planning improvements aimed at enhancing safety, mobility, and economic vitality along Chester Pike. Funding for the bike route was provided through grants from Delaware County, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, and America 250 PA Delco.

Sharon Hill Borough Council Member and Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners Chair Tanya Allen said the initiative is designed to give residents more transportation options while bringing families, communities, and businesses together. Organizers hope the route will encourage more people to discover local attractions and support small businesses throughout the corridor.

Community leaders from all five municipalities praised the project as an important step toward safer, healthier, and more connected communities. Organizers noted that Bike the Pike is just the beginning of broader plans for future streetscape, transportation, and economic development improvements along Chester Pike.
